WHO examines SARS-CoV-2 data collected in China

World Health Organization (WHO) experts on Monday analyzed the information collected in interviews and tours to different sites in Wuhan, China, while probing the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Such a process includes meetings with Chinese scientists and a summary of their work, which they will present to the press before concluding next Wednesday their trip.

One of the team members, Briton Peter Daszak, expressed his satisfaction for China´s support and unrestricted access to visit the sites and people of interest during the inquiries.

According to Daszak, the work was focused on examining the first Covid-19 patients, the coronavirus link with animals and the possibility the virus was introduced through imported frozen food, as China assured. The WHO delegation is building up hypotheses with recently-obtained data and those available earlier, to deliberate where they could direct the probes.

In Daszak’s viewpoint, Wuhan was only the initial step in a task that could take many years and should encompass more in-depth studies in animals.
