Saint Lucia Records 72 New COVID-19 Cases, One More Virus Related Death

Press Release:- Today Friday February 12, 2021, the Ministry of Health and Wellness received confirmation from the Ezra Long Laboratory of 72 new cases of COVID-19.

This is from a batch of 413 tests conducted on samples taken during the period January 31 to February 10, 2021.

These samples were run on February 10, 2021 and February 11, 2021.

These individuals were seen within the community at various respiratory clinics where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19.

As per the national COVID-19 testing protocol, they were all placed in quarantine by health care practitioners while awaiting their COVID-19 test results.

Arrangements have since been made to place the confirmed cases into isolation.

The contact tracing team is undertaking investigations to identify the contacts of these newly confirmed cases.

Confirmation was also received today of the recovery of 234 individuals bringing the total number of active cases currently in country to date to 810.

Two of the active cases are in critical care at the Respiratory Hospital and all of the others are presently stable.

Today, the Ministry of Health also reports one COVID-19 related death bringing the total number of deaths recorded in country to date to twenty-three.

Death #23 is a 62 year old female from the Micoud district who had been previously diagnosed with an underlying medical illness.

At the time of her passing, she was in critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.

Condolences are extended by the Ministry of Health to the family members and loved ones of this individual on their loss.

The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 2487.

The Ministry of Health reminds everyone who has been tested for COVID-19 and placed in quarantine of the importance of observing the guidelines they are given.

It is important to remain within a dedicated space within the home until receiving a call from a health care practitioner with the test result.

During the wait period, individuals should not go to work, shopping or engage in any activities.

The Ministry of Health asks that everyone practice the infection prevention and control measures which will reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Frequently wash hands your with flowing water and soap
Wear a mask when in public places and ensure it covers the mouth, nose and chin
Maintain a distance from others wherever possible
Use a bleach solution to sanitize frequently touched surfaces and frequently handled objects
Avoid contact with other people who have flu-like symptoms
If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, it is important to keep away from others and to urgently seek medical care at your closest community respiratory clinic for assessment.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness will continue providing updates to the public as new information becomes available.
