Venezuela detected coronavirus variant identified in Brazil

Venezuela´s health authorities have detected several cases of people infected with a SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus variant previously identified in Brazil, President Nicolás Maduro reported.

During his special speech, Maduro called on Venezuelans to take extreme prevention and biosecurity measures, by warning of greater contagion risk and high virulence of this new strain.

The Venezuelan president detailed that the new SARS-CoV-2 variant (from Brazil) was has been so far detected in the city of Caracas, in the parishes (demarcations) 23 de Enero and El Junquito, as well as in the states of Miranda and Bolívar, the latter bordering with Brazilian territory.

‘We have hospitalized and isolated people who have come back positive,’ said Maduro, who also announced the implementation of special prevention measures and the strengthening of patient´s healthcare protocols.
