Cuba reports 2,970 new Covid-19 cases and 14 deaths

The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) on Tuesday reported 2,970 new Covid-19 cases, so the total number of contagions since March 2020 has risen to 190,993.

In addition, 189 patients are being treated in intensive care units, 77 of whom are in critical condition and 112 are seriously ill.

The report said that 14 people, including one child under two years of age, died on Tuesday due to complications related to the disease, so the death toll rose to 1,284.

Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at MINSAP, said in his regular press briefing on television that of 2,970 cases, 73 are imported, the source of contagion could not be specified in 129 patients and the remaining cases are autochthonous.

The expert added that 20.4 percent of patients are asymptomatic, totaling 86,550 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Dr. Duran on Wednesday reported 447 new contagions in children under 18 years of age, among whom 35 are under one year of age, including 12 newborns.

With this figure, the total Covid-19 contagions in pediatric patients in Cuba increased to 26,352, and 92.2 percent of them have already recovered from the disease
