Another 18 COVID deaths confirmed in the Bahamas

Eighteen more COVID deaths were confirmed in The Bahamas over the weekend.

Of them, 17 occurred in October and one in September.

The victims ranged in age from 30 to 92.

Thirteen of the victims were from New Providence, two from Long Island, two from Inagua and one from Grand Bahama. Nine were men and nine were women.

The latest deaths bring the confirmed toll in The Bahamas to 626 as of Saturday. An additional 123 people have also been confirmed to have died with COVID but not because of it.

The number of deaths still under investigation also increased to 59.

As of Sunday, 113 people were hospitalized with COVID, 12 of whom were in intensive care.

According to the Ministry of Health, 163 new COVID cases were confirmed between Wednesday and Saturday.

Of them, 115 were on New Providence, 13 on Long Island, nine on Grand Bahama, nine on Crooked Island, five on Eleuthera, five on Acklins, two on Cat Island, one on Andros, one on the Berry Islands, one on Exuma, one on Inagua and one with its location still pending.

New COVID cases have been decreasing slightly in recent weeks.

From October 10 to October 16, 287 new cases were recorded.

From October 3 to October 9, 379 new cases were recorded.

From September 27 to October 2, 537 new cases were recorded.

From September 20 to September 26, 593 cases were recorded and from September 13 to September 19, 648 cases were recorded.

The test positivity rate has regularly remained significantly higher than the maximum of five percent recommended by the World Health Organization.

With 24 positive results out of 287 tests on Sunday, the positivity rate was 18.8 percent. The rate on October 15 was 11.6 percent.

As of Sunday, there were 1,196 active COVID cases in The Bahamas.
