Nigerian troops annihilated dozens of terrorists from the Boko Haram group and the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP)in the Borno region, a military source reported on Monday.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Director of Public Relations of the Army, Brigadier-General Mohammed Yerima, stated that the actions took place around the fringes of the Tumbus of Lake Chad region, and in them, extremists’ gun trucks were destroyed and a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.
According to Brigadier-General Yerima, the combined troops advanced and cleared Daban Massara and Ali Sherifti villages, among other settlements, and began the second phase of their mission along the Kukawa-Monguno road, 14 kilometers to their base, when they saw terrorists’ gun trucks and started pursuing them.
‘In the course of the pursuit which was aided by air cover provided by the Air Task Team of Operation Lafiya Dole, several terrorists were neutralized and their gun trucks destroyed,’ the source added.
However, one officer and three soldiers lost their lives, while those wounded in action are currently receiving medical attention at the 7th Division Medical Services and the Hospital in Maimalari Cantonment.
