Antigua Education Minister Michael Browne Arrested and Charged

Information Minister Melford Nicholas has announced that Michael Browne has been arrested and charged.
Nicholas says Prime Minister Gaston Browne informed him this morning that the former Education Minister was charged based on allegations against him.
The top-level source did not disclose the reason for Browne’s resignation but the minister had recently been the subject of an investigation following a report from a woman.
Browne’s tenure as minister was riddled with controversy.
In 2019, he was accused of failing to follow the proper procurement procedure, costing the government over $9 million in a deal-gone-bad with a company contracted to provide 6000 tablets.
Nicholas said the Prime Minister instructed the Governor General to revoke the Education Minister’s appointment.
He also said Browne maintains his innocence and has asked for the support of his Cabinet colleagues.
Daryl Matthew takes on the duties of Education Minister.
