Port of Spain, Trinidad – The security officials in Trinidad and Tobago have permitted a Ukrainian cargo plane heading for Libya to take off. This decision followed the conclusion of an urgent and extensive probe into the presence of explosive materials, which were not disclosed or authorized in the flight’s official documentation. This situation was deemed a blatant infringement and a serious violation of international civil aviation security regulations and established safety protocols worldwide.

Information Regarding the Abrupt Detention in the Caribbean

An official announcement from the Trinidad and Tobago Airports Authority, reported by media and the global platform Firstpost, indicated that the Ukrainian CVK-708 aircraft had originally been traveling from the Bahamas. It landed at Trinidad International Airport on May 14, 2026, as part of its designated flight plan for a brief technical stop and refueling before proceeding to its final destination in Libya.

Detection of the Unauthorized Cargo and Subsequent Investigation\

The government revealed that during a routine and meticulous inspection of the aircraft and its cargo, immigration officers and air traffic control authorities found quantities of sensitive explosive materials that had been shipped without being documented on the official manifest or cargo paperwork. This discovery triggered immediate security responses, resulting in the temporary detention of the military aircraft and its Ukrainian crew, as well as the establishment of a security perimeter around the area while investigations unfolded.

A high-level investigative panel comprised of various local and international security entities was promptly assembled by authorities. This group included customs officers, national police, the Special Criminal Investigations Unit, and collaborated with international security organizations that oversee the tracking of arms and hazardous material supply chains. The objective was to ascertain the fate of the shipment and the ultimate beneficiary in Libya.

Departure and Ongoing Journey Towards Libya

According to the airport authority’s statement, extensive technical examinations and detailed legal inquiries conducted over the past hours have exonerated the flight crew. It was concluded that neither the pilot nor co-pilot holds any direct criminal or political accountability for the documentary inaccuracies related to the cargo firm.

Following these findings, the relevant authorities in Trinidad and Tobago granted formal clearance for the Ukrainian plane and its crew to exit the airspace and resume their journey towards North Africa, all while maintaining heightened vigilance over air traffic routes.
