Senator Olimpio passed away in Sao Paulo after being infected from Covid-19, thus becoming the third Brazilian senator to die from the disease.

Olimpio, 58, was member of Liberal Social Party and died of brain death in a São Paulo private hospital where he was admitted on March 5.

In October 2020 Senator Arolde de Oliveira died of the coronavirus as well as José Maranhão in February 2020.

In the same period in which Olimpio was diagnosed with Covid-19, two other congressmen also tested positive: Alessandro Vieira and Lasier Martin.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than a quarter of the 81 senators have been infected with SARS-CoV-2.
