YouTube removes Bolsonaro video on chloroquine to treat Covid-19

YouTube has removed from its platform Tuesday a video on which Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro recommended patients with Covid-19 symptoms to use ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine.

‘The video was removed because it violates YouTube’s content policies on incorrect information regarding Covid-19,’ as explained by those responsible for the platform.

Last week, YouTube announced that it would remove videos of this kind, as the drug (hydroxychloroquine) has no a proven efficacy against coronavirus.

In February, Brazil´s Supreme Federal Court (STF) sent a crime report against Bolsonaro to the Attorney General´s Office (PGR) for ordering the use of chloroquine to treat Covid-19.

The STF Judge Rosa Weber was in charge of sending the report to PGR after a lawsuit by the Partido Democrático Trabalhista (PDT) that considers chloroquine propaganda as criminal.

PDT accused Bolsonaro of putting Brazilian people at risk by recommending chloroquine as an early coronavirus treatment, a disease that has claimed to date over 378,000 deaths and 14 million infections in the country.

The report also cited alleged crimes related to federal coffers and tenders due to public purchases made by the Government to produce chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine.

Recently, French doctor Didier Raoult, one of the main proponents of these tablets for Covid-19, changed his mind and admitted for the first time that chloroquine reduces no mortality from Covid-19.
